Fix Your Marriage

Save Your Marriage by Saying You’re Sorry…

To many people, saying the words, “I’m Sorry” seems to be so difficult. However, very often those are the words that will save your marriage. It’s a known idea from as long as we all live, that we need to apologize when we are in the wrong but how often do we actually do that to our loved ones?

It’s a wonder but some people seem to question the need to apologize, maybe for fear that we will be criticized even more or that it will lead to further quarrels but wouldn’t the lack of an apology lead to even further disputes between the couple? Pondering further into the point, wouldn’t a criticism from our loved ones be accepted with open arms?

If we are unable to apologize to our loved ones for fear that we will gain less respect from them, then who can actually apologize? Why do we learn from our parents from young and from our teachers at school that when we have done something wrong, we should apologize?

If you consider the situations when we do apologize to somebody, very often it is done to a friend whose friendship we treasure and do not wish to lose. In other words, we were trying to save the relationship with the other party when we apologize to them. So is that all the more reason why we should apologize to our loved ones? An apology is to relieve or diminish the pain we have caused others and an apology is definitely due to our loved ones if we have caused them any pain and very often it is that missing apology that will help to save the marriage.

If we have hurt our loved ones, it is only right that we humble ourselves and make that move in apologizing. It will not lower the respect that our loved ones have for us, but on the contrary, it will help in maintain the respect for each other because it shows that we loved enough to want to relieve or diminish that hurt we have caused.

Even though our partners may not demand an apology from us, it does not mean that the hurt has gone away on its own but had most probably remained in the depth of their hearts and over time, the relationship might drift further apart. On the other hand, it is definitely unacceptable for us to accept the apologies from frequent offender! It only serves as a display of insincere repentance where the offended party is forced to accept time and again.

In order for a marriage to last for many years, it is necessary that we apologize when there is a need to as we should accept each other’s characters, both strong points and faults. Remember, very often all it takes to save your marriage is just a long awaited apology.
